In Ezekiel 37, the prophet spoke at God’s command. Then the Holy Spirit came upon dry bones, reconnecting, restoring and reviving them.
And today, across Ireland, God is raising up a mighty throng, His holy Church: living, powerful and full of purpose. Surely the Holy Spirit is on the move. What will He do next?
The New Testament letters were often sent to a church in a town or city (e.g. Rome, Ephesus, etc). If a postman was trying to deliver such a letter to say Derry or Enniskillen, he would struggle to know where to start!
Connecting dry bones was the first miracle in Ezekiel 37:1-4.
The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”
I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.”
Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!
What prophetic action or prayer does the Lord want you to do or say? Why not visit another church, befriend a Christian from the other tribe, and pray for life for that church and blessing on that Christian?
It is one thing to make superficial connections. A much greater miracle is to restore that which is dead. Eph 37:6-8 reads
I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”
So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them
The prophetic word is creative. We should not settle for skeletal churches - it is time for serious body-building, and that means working against resistance. Time to get active, to get moving, to speed up, to work jointly.
Ezekiel 37:9-10 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’” So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.
The challenge for us is to listen to the Spirit, to prophesy as He commands. We will see life return to the Church, as the Spirit moves in power...

Famous apologetics book Mere Christianity by CS Lewis was actually based on a series of BBC radio talks he gave during World War II. In the book's preface Lewis remarked The reader should be warned that I offer no help to anyone who is hesitating between two Christian "denominations." You will not learn from me whether you ought to become an Anglican, a Methodist, a Presbyterian, or a Roman Catholic.
Perhaps his focus on the pure fundamentals of the Christian faith helps explain why Lewis's profound and lucid writings remain hugely influential in both Protestant and Roman Catholic circles around the globe. CS Lewis was born in East Belfast, and became an Oxford academic. He converted in his 30s, partly through debates with his good friend JRR Tolkien (author of 'Lord of the Rings'). Historical, scientific and other logical evidence led him to Christ, initially with mixed emotions, describing himself as perhaps, that night, the most dejected and reluctant convert in all England!
